Beltre Won't Negotiate During Season; Extension Could Happen

Adrian Beltre spoke about the contract extension talk prior to Opening Day, and what he had to say was a bit surprising in tone and substance.

Beltre's agent, Scott Boras, reportedly proposed a three-year extension for Beltre — a bit longer than the Rangers probably want at age 37 (as of Thursday) — and then never heard a firm answer from the Rangers. Jon Daniels did say they want Beltre to remain in a Rangers uniform, but went no further.

Beltre is currently set to be a free agent following the season after the Rangers picked up his option for 2016 last season.

"I’m not their priority right now. They're busy doing whatever," Beltre told ESPN. "They don’t have to do anything. I understand that, but I thought that by now I'd have the option to say no to something or say yes."

That's a pretty annoyed tone on Beltre's part, and it seems he could have some grounds for that feeling after all he's given to the Rangers organization. Maybe he's at least owed an answer before the season begins.

Beltre said he won't negotiate during the season, but would be willing to listen if the Rangers say "yes" or "no" to Boras' proposal.
