Beltre Reportedly Seeking Three-Year Extension

Adrian Beltre is arguably the greatest Ranger in franchise history, and that's saying a lot for a guy who's only been a Ranger since the 2011 season.

But that's how big Beltre is on the Rangers Mount Rushmore. He's a team leader, he's fun to watch and he's always played through injury, and to that point, played well through it. In short, he's just pretty remarkable.

But if reports are accurate, it could be a while before the Rangers and Beltre come to an agreement on an extension that both sides reportedly want.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman said recently that he's heard Beltre is seeking a three-year extension worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 million a year.

Excuse me? I thought we'd be looking at a one- or maybe two-year extension, but three? And at that price? Wow.

But it's not unprecedented. Pablo Sandoval recently received a deal worth $19 million a year from Boston, and Beltre runs circles around Sandoval in terms of being a good player. So in that sense, he'd be worth that money.

But he's also about to be 37 years old, so giving a three-year extension worth some serious cash is a bit concerning. However, I suppose if you're going to fork over a deal like that to someone, it'd be Beltre.
