Because of his teammates' very public contract situations, Cole Beasley has been able to fly under the radar about his pending free agency. The Cowboys' slot receiver is reportedly nearing a long-term extension with the team before he ever hits free agency.

Granted, Beasley is set to become a restricted free agent next month, meaning the Cowboys would have a chance to match any offer, so he's not as urgent as teammates Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray, but the former Little Elm and SMU standout is coming off a breakout season in 2014.

Yahoo Sports reported, citing multiple league sources, that Beasley and the Cowboys are working on a long-term deal after the pint-sized slot receiver set career highs with 420 receiving yards, 11.4 yards per catch and four touchdowns in 2014.

He closed the year on a particularly high note, starting with his two-touchdown performance in December against the Bears and going all the way to his big game in the Wild Card round of the playoffs against the Lions.

Beasley's one of the better stories to come through the Cowboys in quite some time, at just 5-8 and 174 pounds, after he went undrafted out of SMU. Now, it seems, he's about to be rewarded for his hard work and perseverance.
