The Texas Rangers are still trying to figure out a way to replace Derek Holland's spot in the rotation for the next two months, at least, and that spot comes up again on Wednesday, which currently lists "TBD" as the Rangers' starter.
The short-term option, anyway, figures to be Anthony Bass, who replaced Holland to start the second inning of Friday's home opener against the Astros and surprisingly pitched really well for five innings.
The team's long man went five innings and allowed just four hits with one walk and one earned run in the sixth inning after he'd pitched four shutout frames before being brought back out for possibly one inning too long.
Bass hasn't made a start since he made 15 in 2012 with the San Diego Padres. He certainly isn't a long-term option, but he might be the best one right now. Anthony Ranaudo is still trying to figure some things out in Triple-A, Nick Tepesch is on the minor-league DL and Chi Chi Gonzalez is probably the last option because the team wants to ease him in to the big leagues and not rush him.
