Banister Completes Rangers Staff

Jeff Banister now has his first staff in place as the new manager of the Texas Rangers, as the former Pirates bench coach has hired Tony Beasley to be the Rangers' new third-base coach. Beasley played and coached with Banister in the Pirates' organization and is a guy he's familiar and comfortable being around.

Beasley will replace Gary Pettis, who left to take a job in Houston after the Rangers' coaching staff was told it could look for other jobs following the resignation of Ron Washington in September.

Gerry Fraley of The Dallas Morning News reported the Rangers also considered former Houston coach Pat Listach and Toronto minor-league manager Bobby Meacham for the job.

Beasley has managed in the Nationals' minor-league system recently, from 2011-2013, and was the team's field coordinator in 2014. Pettis also served as the Rangers' outfield coach, and you'd think Beasley would slide into that roll, as well.
