Baker Could Be Returning

When Jeff Baker was healthy last season, he provided a valuable punch as a platoon player in the Texas Rangers' lineup.

Unfortunately, Baker wasn't healthy much after an errant high five over the summer that ended up leading to thumb surgery.

Baker was cut loose following the season, but The Dallas Morning News' Gerry Fraley said he talked to a knowledgable source who said the Rangers are likely set to bring Baker back in 2014 to serve as a bench bat and to DH against left-handed pitching, which he traditionally murders.

In only 74 games last season, Baker had the second-best productive season of his career in the power department, hitting 11 home runs with a .905 OPS.

He's also a valuable guy on to have on the bench from a defensive perspective. He's not a great defender, but he's very versatile and can play any position on the diamond other than catcher, shortstop and center field.
