For much of the season, Elvis Andrus' batting average with runners in scoring position barely registered a pulse.
While it's still far from lively, it's starting to see a bit of an uptick in recent games, and Andrus has gone from being a habitual rally-killer in the 2-hole to a guy who's starting to get some key hits and driving in runs.
Since Saturday, Andrus is 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position and the Rangers have scored 12, 12 and seven runs, respectively. Entering Saturday's game, Andrus was 1-for-30 on the season with runners in scoring position and had been demoted — albeit briefly — to the bottom of the batting order.
“I wasn’t worried about it, because I knew it was only a matter of time,” Andrus told The Dallas Morning News of his recent resurgence. “I know what I have to do. I have to keep it going for the middle of the order.”
Rangers manager Ron Washington, who has been loyal to a fault at times with Andrus, is looking like a smart man right now, as Andrus' batting average (.260) is the highest it's been in a month thanks to his 8-for-23 road trip.
“He wasn’t getting it done earlier, but what Elvis is doing is nothing new,” Washington said. “I don’t know why anybody is surprised. It just took him a while to get going. He’s always been good for us in the clutch.”
