Cowboys rookie defensive end Randy Gregory still isn’t completely over the high ankle sprain that sidelined him for five weeks earlier this season, but with the ankle improving every day, Gregory is confident he’ll make an impact for the team down the stretch.

“It's gets better day by day,” Gregory told Ben & Skin on 105.3-FM The Fan, via the Dallas Morning News. “I think I'd be exaggerating a little bit if I said that it was 100 percent. But I've always said that I'm fighting that mental battle right now that everyone kind of goes through with an injury kind of like mine.

“One of the main things, I'm practicing real well. It's only a matter of time before I can put that back out on the field the way I was early in the year. I fully expect myself to. I just gotta get going.”

Gregory, who will turn 23 on Monday, was asked later in the interview what he’d like for his birthday.

“Oh man. You know what would be nice ... to end this (expletive) losing streak,” he said. “Get a win on Sunday, have a birthday on Monday and then just glide into the rest of the week. Tony Romo, you better give me my birthday gift. I'm expecting it from you. No pressure.”
