After Breaking Foot, Hakeem Nicks A “Maybe” For Opener With Dallas

New York Giants' WR Hakeem Nicks will be out around three months after breaking his foot Thursday

The Dallas Cowboys will open up the 2012 season against the New York Giants on September 12, in a rematch of the win-and-in game that Dallas lost to the Giants on New Year’s Day, giving New York a playoff berth that turned into a Super Bowl victory.

But there’s a good chance that, in this rematch, the Giants will be without wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.

Nicks suffered a broken foot--more specifically, he broke his fifth metatarsal--in OTAs on Wednesday, an injury that will keep him sidelined for around three months.

It’s probably going to be close,” Giants’ head coach Tom Coughlin said of Nicks’ chances of returning in time for the opener against Dallas, per the Dallas Morning News.

But Coughlin added: “He feels very confident about it. The doctors have expressed it as being something that they think will heal very, very well.”

In the aforementioned season-ending loss to the Giants in week 17 of 2011, Hicks had five catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.
