A Look Around the West

In a weekly post, we'll take a look around the AL West β€” what's happened so far, and what's on tap in the coming days.

1. Houston Astros (66-55) β€” The Astros continue to win in dramatic fashion, as they've had two walkoff wins in this current series against the Rays, alone. The latest was a walkoff single from rookie phenom Carlos Correa, but they're hanging on by the skin of their teeth and things are about to get tough for them with a trip to face the Dodgers over the weekend. Next up: Tonight, 7:10 p.m., vs. Tampa Bay Rays.

2. Los Angeles Angels (63-57) β€” The Angels have taken advantage of playing a pretty weak White Sox team, and give them credit, they've won three games they should win. They still seem fairly unstable though, both in the pitching department and offensively despite some moves at the deadline to shore up left field. Next up: Tonight, 9:05 p.m., vs. Chicago White Sox.

3. Texas Rangers (61-58) β€” Since the all-star break, the Rangers are one of the best teams in baseball. They won another home series on Wednesday and now head off on a four-game road trip to Detroit, a place that's given them problems in recent years. The bullpen seems reborn, and the offense is rolling, and those things both make for a good baseball team. Next up: Tonight, 6:08 p.m., at Detroit Tigers.

4. Seattle Mariners (56-65) β€” Not much to see here. The Mariners are now 10 games out of the division race and appear to be fading even more. Next up: Friday, 9:10 p.m., vs. Chicago White Sox.

5. Oakland Athletics (53-69) β€” See above. Next up: Friday, 9:05 p.m., vs. Tampa Bay Rays.
