Young Bounced from Discus Qualifier

Young DQ'd final two throws

Dallas' Jason Young failed to qualify for the discus finals Monday with a best throw of 62.18m.

Young hit the mark of 62.18m on his first toss.  His second and third throws were disqualified.

A throw of 65m or better would have nearly guaranteed Young a spot in the finals.

After the Group A qualifier, Young sat in 8th position.  When Group B qualifying began, early throws by Germany's Robert Harting and Cuba's Jorge Fernandez dropped Young to 10th overall.

A field of only 12 is needed for the finals, and with good throws from German's Martin Wierig and Australia's Benn Harradine, Young was bounced from contention and into 14th before qualifying ended.

The men's discus final will be held Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. CT.  No Americans made it to the final.
