Witten To Be Honored By Hospital

The Cowboys' tight end made a generous donation to his hometown hospital, and will have the ER renamed in his honor

Continuing what must be the most charitable offseason in the history of professional sports (that I can think of), Jason Witten will have the waiting room in Johnson Medical Center’s ER renamed in his honor.

Witten recently made a donation of $200,000 to his hometown hospital in Elizabethton, Tenn., the waiting room of which will be adorned with memorabilia from his college and professional career.

Earlier this year, the East Dallas Boys and Girls Club received a charitable donation from the Pro Bowler, ultimately precipitating the Jason Witten Media Center.

This isn't Witten's first gift to his home town.  A few years ago, he established The Jason Witten Literacy Center as well.

Witten’s wife Michelle is an ER nurse at Parkland Hospital, a fact Witten cited in a statement.

"My wife has been an emergency room nurse for seven years, and it's her heartfelt passion. Not only is working in the ER her career, but we have witnessed firsthand with our own children that coming to the emergency room can be a scary time for a lot of kids," said Witten. "Our hope is that with these changes, the emergency room waiting area can become a more welcoming and less frightening experience and will help make what can seem like endless hours go by quickly for the families."
