UNT's Comeback Falls Short Against UALR

North Texas couldn’t find its shooting touch until late, falling just short in its Senior Night comeback bid against UALR, 58-54, on Saturday at the Super Pit.

Tristan Thompson and the Mean Green (16-11, 9-7 Sun Belt West) narrowed the UALR (20-7, 13-3 Sun Belt West) lead to three points with 29 seconds remaining, but a four-pack of Trojan free throws sealed the deal. NT’s Adam McCoy hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to trim the lead to four, and now the last four meetings between these two teams have been decided by a total of 12 points.

The Mean Green shot just 25.5 percent for the game, which is its worst shooting effort since Jan. of 2005 when it hit just 23.7 percent at Denver. NT’s 54 points marks its second lowest output of the season.

The Trojans weren’t particularly sharp either – 37 percent shooting on the night – but were effective enough in the low block. All three starting Trojan forwards reached double figures, guiding UALR to a 22-10 edge in points in the paint.

McCoy shined on senior night with his third straight double figure scoring performance. The Dallas native tallied 15 points against UALR following 20 and 24 point games.

Kedrick Hogans joined the North Texas record books with his second half block. Just a sophomore, Hogans now ranks 10th in school history in career swats with 46.

North Texas closes the regular season with a pair of Sun Belt road games at Arkansas State on Thursday and Denver on Saturday. Both games can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
