UIL Releases Enrollment Cutoffs for Realignments: Highland Park Dropping to Class 5A

The University Interscholastic League released the cutoff numbers for the 2016-2018 realignment Friday morning, and one of the most interesting things is that the 6A cutoff rose 50 to 2,150. That's the biggest enrollment jump in the largest class since 2008, and one of the most notable schools affected is Highland Park, which will be dropping down to 5A after a brief stint in the UIL's largest classification.

Highland Park had a snapshot-day enrollment of 2,106 for the 2014-16 UIL alignment, just six students over the cutoff. HP's snapshot-day enrollment for the 2016-2018 alignment, which was turned in last month, was 2,120. Before the last realignment, Highland Park had been in the UIL's second-largest classification since 1988. (The largest classification was 5A until 6A was created in 2014).
