Today Would Be a Good Day to Thank Mark Cuban

Say what you want about Mark Cuban.

He’s arrogant. He’s stubborn. He’s hyper-sensitive. But be thankful this morning you have him as your Mavs owner.

Why? Because he’s not Donald Sterling, and he’s not Bruce Levenson.

Sterling, of course, was forced to sell the Clippers after racist phone conversations were taped and released to the public. And now Levenson, the Hawks owner, is voluntarily selling the Atlanta franchise in the wake of a racist email he sent to team employees in 2012.

The email trivialized fans and painted Hawks’ fans with a severely bigoted brush. It’s offensive. It’s racist. It’s – thankfully – not our problem.

Cuban has given Mavs fans a trophy. And what he hasn’t given them feels just as important today.

A native Texan who was born in Duncanville and graduated from UT-Arlington, Richie Whitt has been a mainstay in the Metroplex media since 1986. He’s held prominent roles on all media platforms including newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Observer), radio (105.3 The Fan) and TV (co-host on TXA 21 and numerous guest appearances, including NBC 5). He currently lives in McKinney with his wife, Sybil, and two very spoiled dogs.
