Texas Rangers to Retire Michael Young's No. 10 Jersey Aug. 31

Ceremony scheduled for Aug. 31 before Seattle Mariners game

For only the fifth time in the team's history, the Texas Rangers will retire a player's number.

No. 10, worn by infielder Michael Young, will be retired Aug. 31 before a game against the Seattle Mariners.

The teams said the on-field ceremony will begin at 6:40 p.m.; first pitch of the Rangers-Mariners game has been moved from 7:05 to 7:35 p.m.

Young joins Rangers greats Nolan Ryan (34), Johnny Oates (26), Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez (7) and Adrian Beltre (29) as the only players in team history to have their numbers retired.

"Michael Young is certainly very deserving of this honor," said team Co-Chairman and Managing Partner Ray Davis. "His contributions to the Texas Rangers franchise have been extraordinary. On the field, Michael was one of the top hitters in the American League for over a decade and served in a strong leadership role. Off the field, his contributions in the community have had a huge impact in so many ways. We are very proud to make this announcement today"

Young, 42, re-joined the Rangers as special assistant to the general manager in November 2014 after retiring from baseball that January.
