Texas A&M to Hold Special Meeting on Thursday to Discuss Football Program

Aggies reportedly make massive offer to Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher

The Kevin Sumlin era is officially over at Texas A&M. Now, the search for a new head coach begins. In fact, it will be a hot topic at a special meeting on Thurday.

The Texas A&M University System’s Board of Regents will meet at College Station on Thursday afternoon to discuss legal and personnel issues relating to the football program, which includes finding a new head coach.

One has to wonder how much the name Jimbo Fischer will be heard throughout the meeting. The current Florida State head coach was rumored to be the next head coach in Aggieland and was offered a massive offer to take over the football program.

Will it happen?

Word from Tallahassee is that they are bracing for Fisher to leave for College Station. During his press conference on Monday, Fisher refused to comment on the rumors. Reports are that he is conflicted about what to do with the Texas A&M offer.

Needless to say, the bar is high at Texas A&M, and nobody knows that better than Sumlin. He was fired after six winning seasons, posting a 51-26 overall record. However, he was 25-23 in the SEC.

Meanwhile in the Sunshine State, the Seminoles are not having that good of a year on the field.  Florida State is 5-6 overall, 3-5 in the ACC, and need a win over Louisiana-Monroe to be bowl eligible. It’s been a disappointing season but if the head coaching job opens up, it becomes one of the best on the market. The Florida State brand has clout.

Here’s another hot take- is it worth leaving the ACC to play an SEC schedule? The answer may come down to two simple words: money talks. Explains why Fisher may be conflicted with the Aggies offer.

There’s no doubt that this will be on the itinerary at the special meeting on Thursday in College Station.
