Terry, Rockets Grounded Against High-Flying Clippers

Sure it makes the Mavs look even more hapless, but there’s something satisfying about the Rockets’ second-round dismantling.

And there’s something selfishly delightful that Jason Terry won’t lift another trophy with a different team.

The last time the Mavs won a playoff series, it was Terry’s performance that won Game 6 in Miami to clinch the 2011 NBA Finals. Now he’s a starting guard for the Rockets, who face elimination tonight against the superior Clippers.

Yep, those same Rockets that clubbed Dallas, 3-1, in the first round, have boxed around the ears in the West Semifinals with losses of 16, 25 and 33 points in falling into a 3-1 hole.

Terry has been decent offensively in this series, shooting 40 percent from 3-point range and scoring in double-figures in all four games. But Houston has been outscored by a whopping 56 points with him on the court.

So let’s fondly remember Terry as the “Jet on the runway” making big shots for the Mavs. Because we don’t have to worry about him as the veteran who led Houston anywhere.

A native Texan who was born in Duncanville and graduated from UT-Arlington, Richie Whitt has been a mainstay in the Metroplex media since 1986. He’s held prominent roles on all media platforms including newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Observer), radio (105.3 The Fan) and TV (co-host on TXA 21 and numerous guest appearances, including NBC 5). He lives in McKinney with his wife, Sybil, and two very spoiled dogs.
