Stars Sinking at Season's End

Team in danger of missing 2009 playoffs

The Dallas Stars lost for the fourth time in their last six games after losing to the Calgary Flames 2-1 Wednesday night.

The loss marked the tenth time in the last 14 the Stars have fallen flat.

"We had lots of effort, but were a little short," said Stars coach Dave Tippett. "We're in a situation where we try to limit mistakes as much as we can and try to find your opportunities to capitalize. We hung around the game for a while and in the end we couldn't get the extra one we needed."

The loss dropped the Stars to tenth place in the Western Conference standings. There are just 11 games left in the regular season.

Injury problems continue to plague the team that has lost Brad Richards (wrist), Brenden Morrow (knee), Sergei Zubov (hip) and Toby Petersen (foot) this season.

The Stars final game of the road trip is Saturday in San Jose.

"We need to win hockey games," said Turco. "We don't care how it gets done, we just need to get it done. We're running out of things to say. We've got to throw the hammer down and start winning hockey games."
