Special Moment for Spieth at the Phoenix Open

The Phoenix Open boasts one of the strongest fields in recent history, which includes Dallas native Jordan Spieth.

Spieth is currently third in the world rankings and is close to be back to full speed after battling some health issues over the last couple of months.

On Wednesday, Spieth was on the course for the pro-am at TPC-Scottsdale and was paired up with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  The two-time MVP missed the end of the 2017 regular season after suffering a broken collarbone. In between holes, the two even had time to toss the pigskin around.

But there was more to Wednesday’s round than that.

Morgan Comer was a high school golfer who was diagnosed with lymphoma shortly after her 16th birthday in 2015. She was forced to forgo her senior season, going through 10 months of chemotherapy.

This wasn’t the only health issue Comer has endured. At three months old, she was diagnosed with a rare liver disease. Comer underwent a liver transplant seven months later, but the medication used to keep the liver functioning led to tumors in her lung and abdomen.

When Comer beat cancer, she returned to school and was named homecoming queen. Comer was asked by the Make-A-Wish Foundation what she wanted to experience the most.

She picked meeting Jordan Spieth. That meeting took place at the 16th hole of the Phoenix Open. The two would continue their conversation at the driving range after Spieth was done with his round.

The first round begins on Thursday. Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm are just some of the names in the field this year looking to grab their first win of the calendar year.

The par-3 16th is one of the most iconic holes on the PGA tour. It became even more memorable on Wednesday.
