Signing With Cowboys β€˜Like Coming Home,' Morris Says

Alfred Morris spent 2016 and 2017 with Dallas

The No. 46 jersey has been changed to No. 23, but Alfred Morris is fine with it. He is back with the Dallas Cowboys after he spent the 2018 season playing for the San Francisco 49ers.

Morris hit the practice field in Oxnard, California Tuesday, and told reporters it didn't feel odd to be back.

"No, it doesn't," he said. "It's almost like coming home, honestly. I still know a majority of the faces here. New faces. Some new names I've learned, but fine with me. Feels like I never left."

With Ezekiel Elliott taking his holdout to Mexico, the club needed to bring in a veteran running back with NFL experience. While Morris has 1,373 career rushing attempts, the team's other five running backs in camp have a combined six. Those belong to Darius Jackson.

Morris made a visit to the New Orleans Saints, but chose the Cowboys after he said it was where the Lord told him to go.

"Comfortable with the system. Comfortable with the coaching staff, with the guys here and stuff," Morris said. "I'm set up in Dallas anyway, so it’s like a no-brainer."

He did drills Tuesday, but didn't practice.

Cowboys running back coach Gary Brown said they wanted to use caution with Morris.

"We're just getting him in. We're not going to put him out there and get him hurt," Brown said. "He just needs to get back in the feel of football and we're just happy to have him. We're going to work it slow with him and eventually he'll be ready to go."

Morris said he can still be a feature back in the NFL.
