Southlake Carroll kicker/linebacker makes choice

Cade Foster is a head coach's favorite type of kicker.

Often not seen as a "true" part of the football team, some kickers like getting their noses in the middle of the action and making some tackles. Consider Foster as that type of kicker times 1,000. Now he'll be taking his game to the Crimson Tide as he committed to Alabama last week, The Dallas Morning News reported. Oral commitments are non-binding. The first day a player from the Class of 2010 can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 3, 2010.

As a starting middle linebacker for the Dragons, the junior has also been the team's starting kicker for three years, and come the fall will be a fourth-year starter at kicker.

And Foster's truly one of the best of the best. The senior-to-be is the nation's second-ranked kicker in the Class of 2010 with his 6 foot, 1 inch, 215-pound frame.

As Matt Wixon reported, his kickoffs have gained length and strength since his freshman year after he began working under the tutelage of famed kicking coach Chris Sailer, who's famous for taking high school kickers and making NFL kickers out of them.

Sailer should be a familiar name around these parts when it comes to kickers. He previously coached Dallas Cowboys kicker Nick Folk as well as USC graduate David Buehler, who the Cowboys selected in the fifth round of the NFL draft two weeks ago.

Foster will graduate a semester early and go to Alabama's spring football program in the spring of 2010. The Tide gave him one of just two offers thus far -- the other being Washington. He was also garnering interest from Missouri, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and SMU.
