Vikings' Quarterback Brett Favre looks on as the Chicago Bears steal a victory from his playoff-bound team.

Brett Favre kicked off his annual retirement drama yesterday by reportedly telling the Minnesota Vikings he doesn’t want to play this year. While that tiresome story unfolds, it appears Favre is also at the center of a parallel drama that is decidedly not of his own manipulation. Ironic, given that manipulating himself appears to be a key element of it.

Today AJ Daulerio at Deadspin reports that the Future Hall of Fame quarterback sent obscene picture mails (Warning: link contains strong language) to Jenn Sterger, a broadcaster and former employee of the New York Jets. Included in the picture mails were photos of Favre’s penis, along with Favre performing a sex act on himself, Deadspin reports:

Sterger claimed she spurned Favre's advances because he was married, but also because she was working for the Jets at the time she didn't think it was the best idea to start a torrid affair with the team's highest profile player (the Jets have not responded to a question about any knowledge of the Favre/Sterger saga at this time). Plus, if she went forward with how aggressive he was and how skeeved out she was to some of her superiors, she suspected she might lose her job.

The interactions were flirty and strange but she didn't think there wasn't anything that made her too uncomfortable. But then, one night, Sterger received a picture on her phone which was so shocking that she just tossed it across the room. It was his (penis). Brett Favre's (penis). And it happened multiple times. In fact, Sterger claims that, in one of the photos Favre allegedly sent her, he's masturbating.

Sterger refused to release the photos in question to Deadspin, though Daulerio has email records verifying Sterger’s accusations.

Between the sordid tales of Tiger Woods and Rick Pitino that have dominated the news over the past few months, it’s not exactly surprising anymore when a star sports figure finds himself in hot water regarding dalliances with the opposite gender.

But Favre has long crafted a brand image of a reformed party boy, who loves nothing more than throwing deep passes and riding around on his tractor. Most of us never bought into that image, one as painstakingly crafted as that belonging to any politician. But if Sterger’s tale proves true, or brings more unsavory news about Favre to light, the image would probably be ruined for the handful of folks still left who buy it.
