Raspberry Miss Dead After Run In With Doctor Rap

Dies of shock from multiple hip fractures

Raspberry Miss has died following a collision with Doctor Rap at Churchill Downs.

Just a week before the legendary track is to host the Kentucky Derby, Raspberry Miss, a 2-year-old filly trained by Ken McPeek, was standing near the finish line during when Doctor Rap dumped jockey Tony Farina and took off like a shot.

The unmanned Doctor Rap, 3, ran into the back of Raspberry Miss, sending both horses to the ground.

Raspberry Miss was taken to an equine hospital in Lexington with multiple fractures in her pelvis. It was there that Veterinarian Larry Bramlage recommended she be euthanized, but the filly died from shock before being administered an injection.

Several Kentucky Derby horses were on the track at the time of the incident, but luckily none were affected.

The tragic mishap comes just a day after local hero Barbaro, who died during a Triple Crown bid at the Preakness, was honored with the unveiling of a 1,500-pound bronze statue.
