Former Rangers Catcher Gets Promotion

Rangers Name Sundberg Senior Executive VP

Texas Rangers President Nolan Ryan announced today that the club has promoted Jim Sundberg to Senior Executive Vice President.  In this position, Sundberg will assist Ryan in the oversight of the organization.

“I have been familiar with Jim’s history to the organization since we were teammates back in 1989,” said Ryan. “Only in the last eight months have I experienced his real value to me, the organization, and its fan base. I look forward to our relationship as we work together to take the Texas Rangers to the next level.”

While retaining all of his current duties in public relations, community relations, and the Texas Rangers Legacy Partnership, Sundberg will also assume the role of liaison for the club’s spring training facility in Surprise, Arizona.

“I have the highest respect for Nolan and the honor to be able to come alongside to assist him in the organization’s needs,” said Sundberg.  “We were once a battery on the field, and it is a privilege to once again assist Nolan and his desire to make the Rangers a championship organization.”

A member of the inaugural class of the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame, Sundberg returned to baseball in 2002, coordinating several community programs for the Frisco RoughRiders

He also served as Texas’ Minor League catching coordinator from 2002-2004.
