Rangers and Matthew McConaughey Help North Texas Youngsters

Hollywood hit North Texas when actor Matthew McConaughey made a stop in Dallas on Tuesday. The Academy Award winner visited the Rangers Play ball event at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex.

McConaughey has teamed up with the Rangers since 2011 to help area kids have a place to go after school lets out. McConaughey’s just keep livin foundation – in conjunction with The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation – was designed to provide high school students an after-school program centered on encouraging students to improve their physical and mental health through exercise, teamwork, gratitude, nutrition, and community service.

Eight years in, the partnership is still going strong. Data provided by the Rangers claims 92 percent of students improve their grades, 96 percent get more exercise, and 98 percent graduate from high school.

Additionally, 100 percent of them say that this program has helped them create new, positive relationships and reduce stress and anxiety in their everyday life.

Students from Sam Houston High School (Arlington), Pinkston High School (Dallas), and Eastern Hills High School (Fort Worth), participated in a variety of baseball and softball activities and were given an opportunity to visit with and hear from the Hollywood star – McConaughey.
