Rangers Set For Weekend Duel With Halos

The division rivals will begin a three-game set in Arlington on Friday night

Going into a weekend three-game set with the Angels, Texas will attempt to extend their lead, strengthen their grip on the top spot in the A.L. West.

Los Angeles would like nothing more than to see that lead evaporate completely.

Starting pitching shouldn’t be a problem for the Halos; Joe Saunders, John Lackey and Jered Weaver will take the bump on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Saunders is coming off a five-hit shutout of the Royals on Saturday; Lackey is coming off a forearm injury that sidelined him for the first six weeks of the season, though he has thrived in his native Texas.

Jered Weaver is his same old nasty self, sitting at 3-1 on the year with a 2.45 ERA.

Texas will rely on Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla and Scott Feldman to keep things interesting.

Millwood and Padilla, as a duo, have looked impressive early, beating their one and two counterparts in Chicago and Seattle last week.

Padilla made history by allowing only one hit in each of his last two outings.

In the opener on Friday, Texas’ offense will attempt to give Millwood some much needed run support; despite a 2.92 ERA, Millwood is 3-3 on the year.

Certified Rangers-killer Vladimir Guerrero, thankfully, will remain on the shelf for the entirety of the series with a torn chest muscle.

Los Angeles is currently 1.5 games back of Texas in the A.L. West.

The series will kick off on Friday night at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
