Rangers Recall Infielder From Triple-A

The Texas Rangers recalled infielder Joaquin Arias from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned outfielder Greg Golson to their top farm club before Saturday's game against the White Sox.

Arias, who hit .291 with nine RBIs in 32 games last year with the Rangers, batted .245 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 24 games with Oklahoma City. He was recalled to give the Rangers some infield depth with third baseman Michael Young sidelined with stiffness in his lower back.

"He came in today with some stiffness and (trainer Jamie Reed) seemed to think that with the cold out there, we needed to give him another day," manager Ron Washington said.

Young is day-to-day after leaving in the fifth inning of Friday's 6-0 win over the White Sox. Young said he tweaked the back on a dive in the second and hurt it while striking out in the fourth.

Young said he had a similar injury a couple years ago in Detroit and missed two games. Washington said Young could return Sunday and no later than Tuesday.

"Knowing Michael, I won't be surprised if he's ready to go tomorrow," Washington said. "But if he isn't, he'll get Monday's (off day) too and that will be three days. For sure he'll be ready on Tuesday."

Outfielder Josh Hamilton (bruised left ribs) took early batting practice before leaving to join the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate for a two-game rehab stint. Arias is expected to be returned to Oklahoma City when Hamilton rejoins Texas on Tuesday for the start of a three-game series against Seattle.
