Rangers Reach 1-Year Deal with Marlon Byrd

The Texas Rangers have signed outfielder Marlon Byrd, the last of the team's players eligible for arbitration, to a one-year deal worth nearly $3.1 million.

Further details were not available Friday.

Byrd batted .298 with 10 home runs, 28 doubles, and 53 RBI in 122 games for Texas last year.

The 31-year-old ranked fourth on the club in games played despite season-long issues with his left knee, which required surgery in October.

Byrd had career highs in walks (46), slugging (.462), and on-base percentage (.380), matching his career bests in homers and doubles.

Texas earlier this month avoided arbitration with the signing of pitchers Brandon McCarthy, Frank Francisco and C.J. Wilson.

The team says Byrd made a donation to the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation as part of his contract.
