Infielder hit 17 home runs in 80 games

The Texas Rangers announced that infielder Chris Davis has been named the club's Rookie of the Year in voting by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Davis batted .285 with 17 home runs, 23 doubles, and 55 RBI in 80 games for Texas this season.

He was the American League Rookie of the Month in July and compiled the 8th-highest slugging percentage (.549) of any player in the league after his call-up on June 26.

His 17 home runs were the 6th-most ever by a Texas rookie, and he produced the best at-bat per home run ratio (17.35) and at-bat per RBI ratio (5.36) by any rookie in team history.

He hit his 10th home run in his 25th game in the majors, the fewest career games to reach 10 homers for any player in the last 18 seasons (1991-2008).
