Feliz Named Rookie of the Year

Relief pitcher is second Rangers player to win the award

Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Neftali Feliz was named the 2010 American League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year.

The 22-year-old received 20 out of 28 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Feliz, who became the Rangers main closer, appeared in 70 games. He won four games and lost three, striking out 71 while giving up only 21 earned runs in 69 innings.

Feliz joins Mike Hargrove (1974) as the only players to win the award in the Washington/Texas franchise’s 50-year history.

Feliz becomes the fourth-youngest pitcher ever to win rookie honors in the A.L., trailing only a trio of other 22-year-olds.
