Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit will miss at least half the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff.
The surgery on Benoit's throwing shoulder was performed Tuesday in Cincinnati by Dr. Timothy Kremchek, the medical director of the Cincinnati Reds.
Benoit has been a key member of the Rangers' bullpen since 2002. Used mostly a setup man in recent years, he is 30-26 with a 4.79 ERA and 55 saves in 273 career appearances.
He spent part of last season on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation.
