Pelicans Ground Airhogs 8-0 to Avoid Series Sweep

Grand Prairie scattered just five hits throughout the game as they were shut out by Pensacola, 8-0.

The Pelicans got on the board early scoring two runs in each of the first two innings.

A Dallas Christison walk and an Antoin Gray home run to left field gave the Pelicans the early two run lead. They struck again in the top of the second when Marcos Rodriguez singled to left field to start the inning.
Justin Humphries then connected with his second home run of the season to give the Pelicans to bring the deficit  to four runs.

Pensacola tacked on another run in the third on a sacrifice fly from Luis Bautista.

AirHogs pitcher Matt Green lasted only two and a third giving up six hits and five runs before being pulled for Jeff Jamnik who didn’t fare much better.

Aaron Jenkins and Vinnie DeChristofaro were able to stop the bleeding by teaming up for three innings, allowing just two hits, and no runs.

The Pelicans were able to score three more runs in the game with the last run coming in the top of the sixth on an error by shortstop David Espinosa with the bases loaded to push the score to 8-0.

Despite the loss this is the third consecutive series won by the AirHogs. They have won six of their last nine games and are slowly gaining ground on the rival Fort Worth Cats, who currently lead the South Division.

The AirHogs will enjoy an off day tomorrow before heading to El Paso for a three game set with the Diablos.

The AirHogs return home for a seven game homestand on Friday, June 12.
