Parsons, Mavs Must Remain Patient Despite Obvious Progress

The best news about the Mavs’ 7-4 start? Chandler Parsons is back!

After making 8 of 10 shots in an impressive 20-point performance in the first half Monday night against the Sixers, obviously his knee is healthy enough to resume to being more than a 20-minute player. Right?

Nope.

Dallas has a chance for a 3-0 road trip and an impressive 8-4 start tonight in Boston, but, yet again, Parsons and his surgically repaired knee will be on pitch count. He’ll play 20 first-half minutes, and nothing more.

Despite Parsons showing more explosion on drives to the hoop and more lift on his jumpers, the Mavs are stubborn in their hopes to slowly return him to full-game form. The plan is to increase his minutes in December and have him healthy for the playoffs come April.

It’s frustrating to watch Parsons shoot out of the gate like he did in Philly, then sit on the bench as the Sixers rallied. He also hasn’t played the second game of back-to-backs.

Better safe than sorry. We saw how impotent Dallas’ offense became in last year’s playoffs against the Rockets.

“Maybe a couple more games like that and they’ll increase my minutes sooner,” Parsons said, hopefully.

Like all Mavs fans, he has to be patient now … to be better later.
