Old Dominion Overtakes North Texas in 70-57 Win

Monarchs see a clear win over the Mean Green

Trey Freeman scored 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting and fueled the go-ahead run to lead Old Dominion to a 70-57 win over North Texas on Saturday.

Aaron Bacote added 16 points and Richard Ross pulled down eight rebounds as ODU (22-6, 11-5 Conference USA) controlled the boards 36-24 to extend its win streak to four and get the season sweep. The Monarchs hit 23 of 49 from the field (46.9 percent) and had six fewer turnovers.

Trailing by six at the break, Old Dominion opened the second half with a 13-2 run to make it 40-35 and take its first lead of the game with 14:32 left. Trey Freeman capped the run with four straight buckets, including the go-ahead jumper, and the Monarchs protected the lead the rest of the way.

Colin Voss had 16 points, Maurice Aniefiok had 13 and T.J. Taylor 12 for North Texas (14-14, 8-8).
