Oh, Say Can You See?

The U.S. dominated the American Football World Championships, as expected

As we first brought up nearly three months ago, a few area high school football players were chosen to take part in the first-ever "American Football" Junior World Championships, and as expected, the United States dominated the competition, topping things off on Sunday with a 41-3 win over Canada at Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

And that was the closest game of the competition for the Americans. They beat France 78-0 and Mexico 55-0. Not much of a surprise there.

Another thing that isn't surprising is that the surprisingly low number of DFW players represented on the team played key roles in the Americans' success. With some of the best high school football in the country played in North Texas, it was a bit of a surprise to see just three local players chosen for the team, but they made their impact.

Defensive linemen Chris Henderson (Dallas Carter) and Prestin Brown (Grand Prairie) were named the all-tournament first team.

Midlothian quarterback Bryce Petty, who's signed with Baylor, was named a second-teamer, but it's difficult to see how he slid that far when you look at his stats. I guess the tournament organizers were just feeling a little sympathy for the other countries.

Petty was nearly perfect throughout the tournament. He went 25-of-30 for 382 yards and six touchdowns, and was perfect in the championship game against Canada, completing all 14 of his pass attempts for 190 yards and three touchdowns.

"It has been an amazing experience," Petty said in a press release. "I can't even put into words what this has been like. I am extremely blessed."
