The FIFA World Cup could be coming to North Texas.
The United Bid Committee of the United State, Mexico and Canada has officially started its outreach for cities who are interested in being host cities for the 2026 FIF World Cup.
A total of 49 stadiums located in or around 44 cities will be considered, which include AT&T Stadium and the Cotton Bowl in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. AT&T Stadium has a 105,000 seating capacity, while the Cotton Bowl holds 92,100. Each city is asked to declare its interest to take part in the bidding process by September 5.
After cities declare their interest, the United Bid Committee will review the submissions and issue a shortlist of potential sites by late September. The committee will then provide more details and conduct meetings to discuss any questions as the candidate cities prepare for their final bid, which is due in January.
“We are honored that the 2026 United Bid Committee has included both AT&T Stadium and Cotton Bowl Stadium as potential host sites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” said Monica Paul, Executive Director of the Dallas Sports Commission. “This is a great opportunity to extend the legacy from Dallas hosting in 1994 and to place Dallas on an international stage for the world’s most prestigious tournament. Hosting the World Cup again would have a great impact on our community and future development of soccer as we have great partners to work with here locally to position Dallas as an Official Host City Candidate in the bid to bring the World Cup to the USA, Mexico, and Canada.”
NRG Stadium in Houston and the Alamo Dome in San Antonio are also on the list.
