The Carolina Hurricanes have added former Dallas Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk to their front office roster.
Hurricanes GM Ron Francis said Wednesday that Nieuwendyk was hired as a professional scout and advisor who will remain based in Dallas.
The 47-year-old was the Stars' GM from 2009-13. As a player, he won the Stanley Cup with three teams in three decades -- Calgary in 1989, Dallas in 1999 and New Jersey in 2003.
Francis says Nieuwendyk "brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our organization."
