NBC 5 Football Minute: Grapevine

After starting at Grapevine High School four years ago, head coach Mike Alexander has turned a three-win Mustangs team into a perennial contender and is preparing for a special season ahead.

We're celebrating 100 years of Grapevine football, this is team 100, so that's pretty cool," Alexander said. "There's a lot of energy and enthusiasm about where the program is going and what this season is going to bring."

What it's going to bring is games in the beautiful, newly-refurbished Mustang-Panther Stadium after construction delays caused Grapevine to play neutral location games last year, and a team looking to build on a 10-win season a year ago.

"It's going to look a little different," Alexander said. "We've been accustomed to slinging it around and throwing the football for thousands of yards the last few years. I don't know if it'll look like that. Hopefully we'll be able to run the ball a little bit and when it's all said and done, I think this team will be a contender. I'm excited about it."
