NBC 5 Football Minute: Aledo

The Bearcats are looking to become the first Texas high school football program to win nine state titles

Aledo has history on its mind, trying to become the first Texas high school football program to win nine state championships, and doing so with a familiar face back on the sidelines.

After five years as the Bearcats' athletic director, five-time state champion coach Tim Buchanan is back for a 22nd season as Aledo's head football coach.

"Being the A.D. is not as much fun as being the head football coach," Buchanan said. "When Coach (Steve) Wood said he wanted to be the A.D. and they gave me the chance to be the football coach again, I said, 'Heck yeah, I'll do it again in a heartbeat.'"

Buchanan has to replace 46 seniors from last season, but does have back one of the top playmakers in the nation in senior running back Jace McClellan, an Oklahoma commit, who is taking on a much bigger role this year.

"He's trying to become a leader, that's the biggest change in Jace," Buchanan said. "Before, he was just the running back. That leadership is going to help us get over the top."
