McKinney Boyd, Frisco Wakeland Score State Titles

OT goal leads to championship win for McKinney Boyd

Amanda Elertson scored the game-winning goal in overtime and McKinney Boyd beat Colleyville Heritage 1-0 for the girls UIL 5A state soccer championship title Saturday.

With 4:31 remaining in the first overtime, Callie Annett crossed the ball from 20 yards out on the left side of the field and Elertson was waiting at the near post and headed it in to put her team up 1-0.

Per UIL rules, if the game is tied after regulation, the teams have to play two 10-minute overtime halves. McKinney Boyd was able to play stout defense in the second overtime and hold on to the win.

The Frisco Wakeland girls soccer team also picked up a state title Saturday.

Frisco Wakeland beat Cedar Park Vista Ridge 2-1 for the UIL 4A state championship.
