One of the most iconic scenes in the HBO series Game of Thrones has a little Texas Connects Us flavor.
New York Mets pitcher and Mansfield native Noah Syndergaard made his much anticipated cameo appearance in Sunday night’s episode. However, if you blinked, you might have missed it.
The 6-foot-5 righty, nicknamed Thor due to his glorious locks of blonde hair, didn’t have a speaking role. He instead got to show off his arm, throwing a spear as part of the Lannister army in the big, fiery, action sequence that closed out the episode.
The Mansfield Legacy alum and 2016 All-Star pitcher isn’t alone with his obsession with the show but it did help get him the gig. Syndergaard’s agents got in touch with the show’s producers and told them he named his gloves after two of the characters in the series – Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister.
The rest is history.
Although his character and the rest of the Lannister Army didn’t escape the fiery death brought upon Daenerys Targaryen and her dragon, Syndergaard said he couldn’t pass up the chance to be involved and would love to do it again.

Syndergaard has been out since the end of April with a torn lat. He’s started five games for the Mets and was 1-2 with a 3.29 ERA prior to the injury.
