Jung Twirls Two-Hit Shutout For Cats

Jae Jung threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout on Friday night as the Cats downed El Paso 7-0 on Friday night at LaGrave Field.

A crowd of 5,607 fans saw the Cats win their season-high sixth straight game as Jung permitted just four base runners in the complete-game effort.

He allowed an infield single in the second inning to Juan Camacho, but then retired the next 18 batters in a row before allowing an eighth-inning walk to Adam Hale. In the ninth, he permitted a two-out double to Kennard Bibbs and a walk to Arnoldo Ponce before getting Jorge Alvarez to fly to center for the final out of the game.

Jung struck out a season-high seven batters and walked two as he became the first Cats' pitcher in 2009 to throw a complete game. The win was his second of the season as he improved to 2-0 on the year.

The Cats got Jung all the offense he needed in the fourth inning as Brian Fryer delivered a two-out RBI single, scoring Kelley Gulledge for a 1-0 Fort Worth lead.

They added five runs in the sixth inning as Fryer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Cameron Blair drew a bases-loaded walk before Ryan Patterson delivered an RBI single, John Allen contributed a sacrifice fly and Michael Bell had an RBI single to make it 6-0 Cats.

Fort Worth pushed its seventh run across the plate in the eighth on Bell's second RBI single of the game.

Nick Martin (1-3) suffered the loss as he allowed four runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched for El Paso.

The start of the game was delayed by one hour and ten minutes do to threatening skies.

The series continues on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. as Dan Grybash goes for the Cats. He will be opposed on the mound by Dane De La Rosa for the Diablos.
