June Jones Says He's “Very Happy” as SMU's Coach

Jones says he's listened to new opportunites that appealed to him

June Jones says he's very happy being SMU's coach, even though he was set to leave for Arizona State.

Jones says he has been contacted by multiple schools about vacant head coaching jobs, and listened to an opportunity that appealed to him.

The coach was part of an appearance for the BBVA Compass Bowl on Thursday, a day after his agent, Leigh Steinberg, believed there was an agreement in place for Jones to become Arizona State's coach.

Jones says he was open and honest with SMU officials, players and recruits during the process and let them know what was happening.

The Mustangs are preparing for their third consecutive bowl, when Jones can get his 100th career victory. They play Pittsburgh on Jan. 7 in Birmingham, Ala.
