Mavericks guard Jason Kidd was named Western Conference Player of the Week.
"I'm honored to win this award in a conference with so many great players, especially point guards," Kidd said. "I obviously give a lot of credit to my teammates who have worked extremely hard as we push toward the playoffs."
Kidd helped the Mavericks (46-31) to a 3-1 week with wins at Minnesota and versus Miami and Phoenix. The 15-year NBA veteran averaged 9.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 13.5 assists, 1.0 steal and 33.0 minutes during that span.
In the Mavericks' 140-116 win over Phoenix on Sunday, Kidd enjoyed a career night with 19 points and 20 assists in 30 minutes. On his 14th assist of the night, Kidd earned his 10,142nd career assist and moved into third all-time among NBA players. He passed Magic Johnson (10,141) and now trails only Mark Jackson (10,334) and John Stockton (15,806).
For the season, Kidd averages 9.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 8.6 assists, 2.1 steals and 35.6 minutes in 76 starts. Kidd ranks fifth in assists per game and third in steals per game among NBA leaders. He is one of only six players to have multiple triple-doubles (2).
The Mavericks, who are eighth in the Western Conference playoff race, can clinch their ninth consecutive postseason berth with a win over Utah or Phoenix loss at New Orleans Wednesday night.
