Instant Analysis: Cowboys vs. Seahawks

Here's NBC 5 Cowboys Insider Jean-Jacques Taylor's instant analysis of the Cowboys' 24-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Century Link Field.

WHAT IT MEANS
The Cowboys’ passing game is beyond broken, and Jason Garrett must fix it quickly or this season will crater will fast. The running game has been effective, at times, but without any big plays in the passing game the Cowboys have a difficult time moving the ball. Seattle won its home opener for the 10th straight year.

TURNING POINT
Dak Prescott had avoided the pass rush and found Ezekiel Elliott drifting down the right sideline. He lofted a pass to him and Elliott turned it into an apparent 31-yard touchdown, but he stepped out of bounds before catching the ball and he was penalized for illegal touching. The Cowboys settled for a field goal and instead of the score being tied 7-7, the Seahawks maintained a 7-3 lead.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Seattle safety Earl Thomas, who had a tumultuous week, had two fantastic interceptions and a team-high seven tackles to lead Seattle to its first win. Thomas wants a new contract and has let it be known he wants to plays for the Cowboys. After his fourth-quarter interception, Thomas took a bow in front of Jason Garrett and the Cowboys’ bench.

KEY STAT
Dak Prescott passed for 148 yards, the third consecutive game he has failed to pass for more than 200 yards this season. He has failed to pass for more than 200 yards in nine of the past 11 games.

WHAT'S NEXT
Dallas plays Detroit next week, and the Lions have been one of the league’s worst teams. The problem for Dallas is quarterback Matt Stanford and receiver Golden Tate are capable of creating enough big plays to challenge the defense and for this offense 17 points represents a mountain.
