In the Market for a Mansion? Former Home of Cowboys Star Deion Sanders to Be Auctioned Off Thursday

Have you ever wondered what you could do with a mansion like the stars have? Come Thursday, someone gets to answer that question in Collin County.

The former Prosper home of NFL Hall of Famer and Dallas Cowboy Deion Sanders is up for auction. As impressive as the 29,000-square-foot mansion is from the outside, the property — known as "Chateau Montclair" — is astounding on the inside.

For the past month, leading up to Thursday's auction, the mansion has been open for potential buyers to take a look.

"I think they're in awe of the grandeur," said Jodi Fillmore, the project manager for Concierge Auctions, the New York City-based auction house, which deals in high-end properties around the world. "It's unconscionable to imagine occupying a space like this."

Chateau Montclair was built in Prosper in 1999. The mansion Sanders used to call home has nine bedrooms and 10-and-a-half bathrooms. A walk-in closet alone takes up 3,000 square feet. There is a 14-car garage, three swimming pools, a barber shop, a pair of bowling lanes and an indoor basketball court.

Interested buyers must submit offers for Thursday's auction. There is no reserve, but parties must put down a $100,000 deposit, refundable if they lose out.

Many of those in the market have toured the property, as have several people who are just plain curious.

"We have had a tremendous flow just for the sake of inquiry," Fillmore said. "I wonder what that house looks like."

The property has been on the market for a few years. The most recent list price was $14.5 million. Its current owner never even lived in the mansion.

That will soon change, once the highest bidder is announced and they get the keys to a place most people could only dream of.

"You could have as many people here as you could possibly want, with room to spare," Fillmore said. "As long as you've got the money."
