Historic Alamo Stadium to Unveil New Look

San Antonio's Alamo Stadium, the historic high school venue that has hosted thousands of football games for almost 75 years, is set to be rededicated this month after undergoing renovations.

The San Antonio Express-News reports that the rededication is set for Aug. 16. Major renovations started in December 2012 after voters in the San Antonio Independent School District approved a bond that included $35 million for the stadium's renovations.

School district spokeswoman Michelle Jimenez says new turf and an all-digital scoreboard are "the big highlights." She added that the turf upgrade will accommodate both soccer and football.

She says other improvements include upgrades to restrooms, locker rooms, concessions, the press box, seating and lighting.

The stadium was added to the National Register of Historic Places in September 2011.
