Harrison, Rangers Look For Continued Success in Chicago

Matt Harrison looks to win his third straight decision as Texas faces Chicago

Matt Harrison is 2-2 on the season, with both wins coming with Taylor Teagarden as his battery-mate.

So it’s no surprise that when Texas takes the field in Chicago tonight behind Harrison, Taylor Teagarden will be doing the catching.

"Harrison had been struggling and Teagarden got him out of it," Manager Ron Washington said. "They work well together. I'm not going to fix what's not broke."

Harrison’s last start came against the White Sox at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, a five-inning outing that saw Harrison surrender six hits but no runs; he walked none and struck out three.

The hitherto solid battery should give Texas ample opportunity to leave U.S. Cellular field with a win on Friday night, as Texas is facing the struggling Jose Contreras. The Cuban expatriate is 1-2 against the Rangers, with a career 10.17 ERA.

This will be only the beginning of what may turn into an important stretch for the team.

Last week, Texas was dealing with the front ends of both the White Sox and the Mariners’ rotations. This weekend, Texas will face Contreras, Bartolo Colon and John Danks.

On paper at least, Danks is the only one who could potentially stifle the Rangers’ offense; even though he failed to do so last week in Arlington.

At 15-13, Texas is headed into U.S. Cellular Field with a half game lead on the Mariners.
