Gilmer Tops West Orange-Stark for 4A D-II Title

Blake Lynch scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns and Gilmer overcame an 18-point deficit to beat West Orange-Stark 35-25 for the Class 4A Division II state championship Friday.

Gilmer (16-0) won its third state title, all in the last 11 years. West Orange-Stark is now 2-3 in state championship games after opening the postseason with a 64-0 victory against Houston Scarborough, believed to be the first 0-10 team to make the Texas playoffs.

West Orange-Stark (13-3) had three turnovers in the second half. The first two led to touchdowns that started Gilmer's 28-point second-half surge.

Lynch, who has committed to play at Baylor, ran 4 yards to give Gilmer its first lead with 10:53 to play. He scored from 7 yards out with 4:59 remaining. Lynch finished with 21 rushing yards on five carries, and caught two passes for 96 yards.
